It looks like the gold that the Philippines will be getting will be coming from the local mines and not at the Beijing Olympics.  For those who are not sure, we’ve never had an Olympic gold medal hung around the necks of our athletes. Gold has eluded us since 1924, the first time we attended the Olympic games in Paris.  We have won the silver in boxing, but that was back in 1996 (Atlanta, USA).  But how could we possibly win with a 15 man team?  Where are our athletes?  AND What’s up with our stomachs - diarrhea before the event?  Sigh.

The Philippine Inquirer has a very scathing, but funny account of the flops at the games.

Trails, Travels, and Gears is what this blog is all about.  We love the photos but it seems that the blog has very sporadic updates due to the blogger’s main pursuit:http://4×4ph.com/. Lately though, blogger Craw seems to be back AND biking instead of out gas-guzzling in his 4×4! In addition to covering places in the Philippines, there is also informative itineraries like 4 days in Singapore & Malaysia.

The Philippine Islands actually have some of the best on and off-road bike trails so its a pity that very few have taken up the sport although it has been picking up.  Craw’s latest post is in search of fellow bikers after his epiphany that biking is not just about pedaling on two wheels.  Now that oil prices are sky-high, there’s even more reason to save money and get fit on a bike :).

So if you are a biker, go and give him a holler.  And if you’re still stuck in the driver’s seat, go check him out as well.
